About

The made world is endlessly fascinating. That’s the overall theme of this blog. My main interest has always been sculpture, but the applied (or decorative) arts, contain a great deal of interesting sculptural work, so they are included here too. Unusual places, particularly if they are created by hand-made means, are also covered.

Watts Towers, LA, Los Angeles, Compton

Well-made and beautiful things are important. What are these strange things, and how and why do humans make them? I explore these ideas through writing about things I have made, art works and objects I have seen, places I have visited, and relevant texts.

I’m interested in knowledge gathering and sharing, in the spirit of generosity and accessibility. Often, this knowledge must be gained by doing something, and attempting to do it well (and sometimes failing). At other times, it is gained by studying the marvellous things others have achieved, with awe, curiosity and respect.

I am an artist living in Cardiff, U.K. I have loved making things for as long as I can remember.
